General

This fund has been initiated by the Division of Human Nutrition, Wageningen University, The Netherlands on 15 July 2004 to honour Clive E. West for his contribution to a better understanding of the importance of micronutrients in human health worldwide. Clive succumbed to Kahler's disease, a multiple myeloma bone marrow disease, on 27 August 2004. He left an empty space in the scientific nutrition world.

Clive felt really honoured and was happily surprised when the fund was made known to him at a special get-together to commemorate his almost 25 years excellent scientific work in human nutrition in Wageningen.

In his spirit this fund is created for excellent young fellows in micronutrient research especially targeted towards developing countries.

The aim of the fund will be to stimulate research and capacity building in the field of micronutrients, and especially micronutrient deficiency, in developing countries. The fund is aiming at financially supporting students and/or young researchers from these countries who are studying or dealing with this subject.
